How to request an appointment

To book appointment, please contact the surgery on 01639 622050 between 8am and 11am, Monday to Friday. After 11am the on call clinician will deal with urgent requests/cases.

Our reception team will ask you brief questions relating to your medical issue to convey back to the clinician.

If you have severe injury, chest pain, difficulty breathing or sign of stroke, please dial 999 immediately.

The surgery offers same day consultation for children under 16 with acute presentations.

The surgery does provide pre-bookable appointments pending availability by calling the surgery.

Routine appointments

Routine appointments are usually booked or arranged in advance and you will be seen by a clinician such as a GP, advanced nurse practitioner, advanced paramedic practitioner, minor ailments nurse, practice nurse or healthcare assistant.

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:
– by phone
– face to face at the surgery
– on a video call
– by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

There are many conditions and injuries that don’t require a GP appointment. These conditions and injuries can be treat at home by yourself or if you need further information or treatment, you can see you local pharmacist for free advice.

Patient Responsibilities

You will be treated with respect and as a partner in your care. Being a partner means you have responsibilities too.

The Practice will:
– Ensure our patients have 24-hour access to medical advice.
– Aim for you to have access to a suitably qualified medical professional in a clinically appropriate time frame ,
– Work in partnership with you to achieve the best medical care possible within a clinically appropriate time frame.
– Involve you and listen to your opinions and views in all aspects of your medical
care.
– The prevention of disease, illness and injury is a primary concern. The medical staff will advise and inform you of the steps you can take to promote good health and a healthy lifestyle.

The Practice would respectfully ask that you:
– Let us know if you intend to cancel an appointment or are running late.
– Treat staff with courtesy and respect. Reception staff may have to ask some
personal questions to assist us in providing you with the best service.
– Inform the practice staff of any alterations in your circumstances, such as change of surname, address, or telephone number. Please ensure that we have your correct telephone number, even if it’s ex-directory. (Hospitals also need to be informed).
– As patients, you are responsible for your own health and that of any dependents. It is important that you adhere to information and advice given to you by health professionals and co-operate with the practice in endeavouring to keep you healthy.

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 Wales or call 111. The NHS 111 Wales symptom checker is for people aged 12 and over. Call 111 if you need help for anyone under 12. Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Minor Injury Unit – Neath Port Talbot Hospital

The Minor Injury Unit is for minor injuries to the body only. It cannot deal with patients with any illnesses, suspected heart attacks, chest pains, strokes etc.  If you have a serious illness or injury ring 999.

Please tell us:
– if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond. We will endeavour to meet the request, however this may not always be possible
– if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face to face, by video call or by text or email. We will endeavour to meet the request, however this may not always be possible
– if you need an interpreter
-if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

To ensure those frail and vulnerable in the community still receive the right care, we may need to arrange home visits. We are grateful for your understanding in prioritising patients who are housebound.

Home visits may be undertaken by a range of clinicians, including doctors, practice nurses, district nurses, APP, ANP, paramedics and healthcare assistant. We often will telephone first to ensure the right team member is in assistance.
